Meet our 2010 Paraclete Award recipient, Lori Lavik

Lori Lavik is the proud recipient of the coveted 2010 Paraclete award, which was presented at the November Annual Fund celebration held on the campus of Azusa Pacific University. Lori is well known among parents, faculty and administration for her countless volunteer hours of service and dedication to the school over the past nine years. As many readily agree, it is Lori’s kind and humble servant heart that clearly embraces the spirit of the Paraclete award. Besides her involvement with numerous committees and special tasks, Lori has served admirably the past two years as Room Parent Coordinator. In that role, she is responsible for overseeing the busy activity of all Kdg. thru 8th grade Room Parents. “If there’s a job to be done, regardless of its size or complexity, that’s where you’ll find Lori,” says Superintendent, Bo Gutzwiller. “Her ability to lead by serving others is an inspiration to everyone who works with her.”

The Paraclete Award, initiated last year, derives its name from an ancient Greek term parakletos, which means to come alongside someone for the purpose of giving comfort, encouragement and help. Jesus makes reference to the Paraclete—the comforter—in the Gospel of John (16:17; 14:16; 14:26; 15:26).

Lori and husband Eric have two children at Foothill, Erika, an 8th grader and Lars, who is in the 5th grade. Lori expressed mixed feelings about Erika who will be graduating this June. As Lori put it, “I know that it’s going to be sad when Erika moves on to high school and has to say good-bye to Foothill. This has been her total school experience since kindergarten. On a brighter note, our son, Lars, will still be here at Foothill to flourish. We absolutely love this school!”
