A partnership with promise…

COMMUNICATIONS
FCS believes that good communication is critical! Our website (www.foothillchristian.org) is the best way to keep track of key information, activities and events. Parents also have access to grades, homework assignments and class activities through a supplemental link from our website called: RenWeb. Parents can verify grades and assignments in the convenience of their homes in “real-time”! FCS also publishes a newsletter, e-Flourish, every two weeks, a monthly news feature, called the Foothill Page, and hosts a monthly informal meeting with the superintendent, called Coffee with Mr. G.

VOLUNTEERS & SUPPORT
Parents and Grandparents are an integral part of the success of FCS. Volunteer hours are not mandatory, but there are a number of ways to get involved. From helping teachers in classrooms to lending a hand with major events like our annual golf tournament, annual fund dinner and Jog-a-thon, there is a place for you! Many of our parents also direct their support to FCS through the United Way, employer gift match programs, and Albertson’s/Target/Von’s retail cards. FCS does not sponsor candy or catalogue sales, but we do sell SCRIP gift cards. Every family is asked to purchase a minimum of $50 of Scrip each month for regular purchases of groceries, gasoline, fast-food, clothing, and so on. We offer over 100 choices for Scrip. A percentage of every Scrip sale comes right back to the school as income for needed improvements.

A comprehensive curriculum…

CURRICULUM
As opposed to using a single publisher, Foothill has opted for a diversified curriculum, enabling us to select what we feel are the finest materials from a variety of state approved publishers. Our reading programs combine award winning literature with phonics instruction.

FINE ARTS & ENRICHMENT COURSES
The arts are an important part of education that is often neglected today. Students enjoy weekly classes in music, computer, library, Spanish, and physical education. Independent instructors also give lessons in piano, band, strings and chess. Our elementary “Fairy Tale Theatre” and junior high musical productions entertain the heart and refresh the soul!

SCIENCE CAMPS & TRIPS
Beginning in fourth grade students can experience the excitement of hands-on learning at various science and nature camps.

  • 4th grade - Rawhide Ranch
  • 5th grade - Catalina Island Marine Institute
  • 6th grade - Lake Arrowhead Alpine Camp
  • 7th grade - Palomar Nature Camp
  • 8th grade - Washington D.C.-Philadelphia-New York
ELECTIVES FOR 6th - 8TH GRADES
Students may choose from a variety of elective courses ranging in categories of literature, geography, physical education, art, technology, drama, band, as well as other enrichment and high school prep classes. (Please note: Spanish is a junior high CORE class and is taken every day by all 6th – 8th graders.)

PROGRESS REPORTS and REPORT CARDS
Parents can view grades on-line at any time. Traditional paper progress reports are not needed. Report cards are also posted on the web for parents to view. Only the final report card is sent home in paper form. The school provides students in grades 3rd – 8th with personal Homework Planners to help keep them organized.

A foundation of faith...

FAITH IN ACTION Students are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Christ that is meaningful and transformational. Daily Bible lessons are geared toward character development and a growing awareness to serve others. Children (at all grade levels) participate in various community, urban and global projects to foster a servant’s heart for those less fortunate. Projects typically include: food drives, visits to retirement homes, inner-city toy and food distribution, Union Rescue’s “Urban Plunge”, a junior high Mexico Missions trips, and even a missions trip to the Dominican Republic.

Students have Chapel each Friday. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Chapel offering is collected each week; this allows us to support ACSI Mission Schools and the various projects throughout the year. In the words of one of our students, “You’re never too young to serve Christ!”

An academic edge…

TECHNOLOGY (A Distinctive at FCS!)
We have a computer lab, plus every classroom is equipped with computers and access to the internet. Each computer is connected to a large TV screen and 3rd – 8th grade classrooms have “InterWrite” technology to enhance the instructional program.

Jr. High students may take computer courses in Web Page Design, Pod-Casting, Videography, Digital Photography, Multi Media, Web Design, and Garageband as part of our extensive elective program.

SPORTS PROGRAM
6-8th grade students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher may try out for our after school sports teams. Our teams play area Christian schools in the following sports:

  • Girls: volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, track
  • Boys: flag football, basketball, and soccer, track
CLUBS & ACTIVITIES
Students in 6-8th grades have the opportunity to be involved in National Junior Beta Club, Missions Club, Cheerleading, Chess and more.

A wholesome environment…

DISCIPLINE
FCS believes that a teacher must be able to teach without disruption to maximize learning potential. Teachers incorporate positive aspects to their classroom management program and work closely with parents when behavior standards are not being met. The best results happen when we work as a team…home, student, and school. You can view the Parent/Student Handbook on the school website for more detailed information.

DRESS CODE
Foothill Christian School requires students to wear uniforms. The uniforms may be purchased through Red Dot Uniforms in El Monte. The uniform company also sets up sales on campus 2-3 times per year. A link to their website, www.reddotuniforms.com, is available on the school website.

NUTRITIONAL LUNCHES
Hot lunches are prepared on campus and may be ordered on a daily or monthly basis through Regent Catering in our campus kitchen. Breakfast is also available. Menu’s are published on our main web page and sent home each month with the students.

CHILD CARE
Child care is available before and after school, throughout the summer months and during some holidays (6:30 AM – 6:00 PM). Students may arrive no earlier than ½ hour before school or 20 minutes after school and will not be charged for child care. We have several child care plans from which to choose. Please see the Financial Rate Sheet for more detailed information.

Students arriving no earlier than ½ hour before or leaving 20 minutes after school are not charged for child care.

An investment in the future…
